What is Pashmina?

Pashmina, also called pashm, is a very popular fabric in the Middle East and Central Asia that is made from the wool of pashmina goats and combined with silk. Pashmina is often used in places such as Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan for scarves, shawls, and wraps. Generally, you will find a blend of 50% wool and 50% silk, or 70% wool and 30% silk.

In particular, Afghan pashmina shawls are some of the most beautiful I have seen. They can be found in bold flowery colors and patterns, or in solid colors. Many women wear them as head dressings, scarves, or shawls. Pashmina shawls are both very sensible and very beautiful. Pashmina is lightweight and can be used year round, although it is especially perfect for the cold winter months. Most pashmina shawls range from $10-$50.

Some other great uses for Pashmina Shawls are as home decor, such as drapes or curtains, thrown over the back of a couch, as chair covers, or as table runners.
